Extra Life Edmonton
I do a lot of graphic design for Extra Life Edmonton, a local videogame-centric charity that raises money for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. It’s a cause that’s near and dear to my heart, and over the years I’ve developed quite a few assets; the core brand identity featured on social media pages, social media posts, physical banners and pamphlets, t-shirts, etc.
Featured here are some of my personal favourite projects!
Brand Identity & Social Media
The most immediately noticeable way my contributions manifest is probably in the graphics and banners used on our social media profiles. These are generally refreshed every year or two, and a lot of thought is put into them as they inform the design language of our other assets throughout the year.
When making these, I try to sit down with the team and really understand what our goals will be for that year, as well as collect feedback on what worked or didn’t work with the previous year’s graphics.
Social Media Posts
One of the challenges of managing the brand identity is developing assets that look good in a variety of contexts – these posts can be anything from simple announcements and reminders to full-on schedules for events.
Other Marketing
Over the years I’ve also developed a number of other materials including retractable banners, pamphlets, booth coverings, and digital signage. Because Extra Life Edmonton is volunteer-run, we don’t have the budget to update our printed assets as often as our digital ones – this can result in reusing assets over longer periods, but I do my best to ensure everything looks as cohesive as possible.
Merchandise
I also design the T-shirts for our annual Game Day event! These are always fun and cathartic projects, encapsulating the themes and goals of the year in a tangible way.
